People outside of my country may not know who Terry David Mulligan is, but in Canada, he’s a highly regarded interviewer and music journalist. When I used to watch MuchMusic as a kid, Terry did all the “serious”, grown-up interviews with the big artists like Bowie or Neil Young. I didn’t realize exactly how long he’d been plying his trade, until I saw this.
This is a very young Terry David Mulligan interviewing the Jimi Hendrix Experience in 1968 for the CBC. This was on the CBC! Kudos to whoever acquired this footage, and YouTube user ocarinaoftime for preserving this and posting it online. Its a very rough edit, and probably never aired. It’s not an earth-shattering interview, because Jimi and the boys don’t seem terribly into it, but nonetheless it is an amazing historical document, and a glimpse into Canada’s side of the great sixties rock revolution.
Terry, you are a Canadian journalistic icon. ‘Scuse me while I kiss this guy.
