In 1989, Neil Young released “Eldorado”, a weird five-song EP that was only released overseas. After years of playing blues, country, electronic music, and throwback rockabilly, this release was Young’s return to crunchy rock & roll. In his typically perverse, willful manner, he only released it in Japan and Australia. This EP also featured one of my favourite of Neil’s backing bands: the rhythm section is Chad Cromwell and Rick Rosas, also known as The Restless (as in “Neil Young and The Restless”, get it?). They went on to play on four of Neil’s albums.
In honour of Valentine’s Day, here’s an awesome tune called “Heavy Love”, which was never re-recorded or re-released.
