Today is the seventy-first birthday of David Van Cortlandt Crosby. I’ve never been a huge fan of Crosby, but I appreciate his work with CSN and CSNY, and I have enormous respect for him as a survivor of the original rock scene and his long history of political and social activism. Also, his epic hairline and walrus-style moustache are some of the greatest in rock history.
Here’s David doing a lovely, understated version of Joni Mitchell’s “For Free”, from her Ladies of the Canyon album.
And just for kicks, here’s CSNY doing “Down By The River” at a classic outdoor hippie concert in Big Sur, in 1969.
Hey…watch the “old man” comments, eh? I won’t show this to Bob. LOL —
Hahaha- I use the tearm affectionately, of course! Age is a gift! Crosby is a survivior: he’s lived hard and survived to tell the tale.
