October 14th is the birthday of La Monte Young, the first avant-garde minimalist composer. His concepts and ideas about sound were absorbed into the fabric of rock and roll via his association with John Cale, who later brought his teachings to The Velvet Underground, who eventually passed the influence on to bands like Sonic Youth. Cale spent some of his career during the early 1960s in Young’s musical ensemble, during which time they supposedly recorded this beautiful piece of drone music. I present it to you, in tribute to this great and extraordinary artist.
Strap on your headphones and relax.
Thanks for posting this; not as well known as Terry Riley or Philip Glass, La Monte Young is often overlooked in his influence in minimalism.
